Little Libraries Building Class

Over the last couple of years, I’ve seen little libraries pop up all over Buffalo. Little libraries are usually found on residential properties, in gardens or simply planted into front lawns. The tiny houses are filled with books that people can take and read. People can also drop off their own books, depending on the rules of the library – builders can make up their own library rules. Some little libraries can be purchased online, while others are built by their crafty owners. If I had a front yard with a garden, I think that I would have one of these because I love the concept of sharing, reading, and the houses are super cute. The libraries also tell you a lot about the neighborhood that you are in.

For anyone who has been thinking about building his or her own little library, The Foundry is offering a free class on Saturday April 30, from 9am to 12pm. The program is being held in conjunction with the University Tool Library. The little libraries that are built during the class will be sold at a fundraiser, but the knowledge of how to build a structure of this nature will be retained by the builders. Plus, builders will have a chance to purchase the little libraries at the fundraiser. The most important thing is that the libraries get built, people share books, the organizations receive fundings, and the knowledge of building a little library is passed along.
