Selma Selman, a Bosnia-born artist based in Syracuse, will present a new art exhibition at the Dreamland Art Studio, starting March 4.
The title, “Me Postojisarav – Postojim – I exist,” deals with Selman’s struggles of statelessness, multi-generational conflict, and survival, pertaining to Bosnia’s complicated history of ethnic conflict. It explores what Selman feels, being viewed as a foreigner both in her land of origin and her current home. The exhibit includes works of video, sound sculpture, paintings, and a performance work. This is her first solo exhibit in the United States.
Selman was born in Bihac, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1991. Her work has been featured in various European art festivals over the past few years, such as in Venice, Luxembourg, Sarajevo, Salzburg, Osijek, and Dubrovnik. She’s currently working on her MFA at Syracuse University.
