Perno’s Top Weekend Concert Pick: Yali, Sonny Baker, and Jacob Peter

While Thursday is a bit early for my weekend pick, Good Friday is technically a holiday so your weekend is starting a little early with Yali’s debut EP release at Mohawk Place on March 24th. You might be asking yourself right now, “Travis, what is a Yali?” Excellent question.

Yali is a local Buffalo indie group consisting of Humble Bragger guitarist/ bassist Byran Zells along with Jack Murphy. The duo released their EP titled “Ancient Heart” on March 18th. The EP consists of 4 tracks that were recorded in the time-frame of August through October of 2015. The band’s lead single “Tart” is reminiscent of indie rock heavyweights Dispatch, while having deep alternative roots mixed with a hint of soul. Simply put, there’s nothing like Yali anywhere else in Buffalo right now.

Filling out the night will be Sonny Baker as well as Jacob Peters. Baker is still coming off of his EP “flesh it out” which debuted in the summer of 2015. He will be bringing some of his alt-rock grooves to Mohawk Place. Jacob Peter is an old band-mate of Bryan Zells from when they played together in Humble Braggers. Jacob Peter has since moved on with his own project and will also be taking the stage this Thursday.

Make sure to get on down to Mohawk Place on 3/24 and grab a copy of Yali’s EP “Ancient Heart”!
