The recommended landmarking of The Bachelor apartment building has not stopped the developer that wants it demolished from buying it. Ellicott Development purchased the circa-1886, four-story building at 329 Franklin today for $1.1 million from Sinatra & Co. Realty. The building at the southeast corner of Franklin and W. Tupper streets would be demolished under Ellicott plans for the mixed-use 500 Pearl Street project.
Sinatra & Co. Realty’s BN Medical Campus Rental Group LLC purchased the building in August 2014 for $945,000.
500 Pearl Street would include a 109-room hotel, 28 apartments, 30,000 sq.ft. of commercial space, a parking ramp, and a restaurant. The Buffalo Christian Center building at Pearl and W. Tupper streets would be incorporated into the project.
The Buffalo Preservation Board recommended denial of a demolition request by Ellicott Development in early-January and recommended the building be designated a local landmark later that month. The Buffalo Common Council has final say on the landmark request.
