It’s never too early to start thinking about the sailing season. Before we know it, the lake will be teeming with sailboats, and other recreational watercraft. Recently, more and more boating opportunities have presented themselves, allowing people to get out onto the water in greater numbers. There are sailing schools, a water taxi, kayak rentals, paddle boating opportunities, and event stand up paddle boards are a big hit.
Coming this spring, there is a new sailing tour and private charter company embarking upon Lake Erie waters called Make Sail Time. The sailing outfit is being captained by Mary and Rich Bennett, who are in the process of taking ownership of a brand new Beneteau, which is being built to order presently. “We’ve been sailing, racing, and coaching for years as well as working as licensed captains in our spare time – for pay and also as volunteers,” said Mary. “We want to share our passion and experience with the community so we decided this was a perfect year to officially open Make Sail Time. We will be offering Make Sail Time on weeknights and weekends with a select groups of full summer days during the week. In the past we’ve gone sailing every day, so this will be a seamless transition to Make Sail Time tours. Typical excursions will be 2 hours. The full development of our list of tours, charters, and themes is still being developed and will be posted in the near future.”
Many of us have figured out how to get out onto the water to some degree. At the same time, it’s encouraging to see more people taking the time to set up businesses that are designed to get additional waterfront enthusiasts interacting with the lake. What could be better than having your own captained sailing tour or private charter, after work or over the course of a weekend? Make Sail Time will make it a breeze for people to reserve a day and a time, and get out sailing. It’s as simple as that. Guests/crew don’t have to know how to sail to enjoy the water, the city skyline, and the city’s magnificent sunsets, not to mention the concerts and other events that take place throughout the summer. From date nights to family outings, or even sailing lessons and coaching, Rich and Mary are USCG licensed captains that look forward to servicing the sailing needs of individuals, couples or small groups.
March is right around the corner, and not long after that the sailing season will get underway. Seeing that this winter has been exceptionally mild, I would think that boats will be taking to the water much earlier than in previous years. If you’ve been wanting to get out on a sailboat (more like a luxury yacht), then this is a fantastic opportunity to do so. When the weather warms up, and the boats take to the lake, you can expect that Mary and Rich will be under full sail with their lucky guests/crew.
