It was only a matter of time before a movie called Lake Effect was produced in WNY. Buffalo filmmaker Sam Qualiana (Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast, The Legend of Six Fingers) has officially wrapped up his latest horror film adventure called Lake Effect.
The movie is about a group of friends that lose a terminally ill man in a snowstorm. Upon setting out to track down the missing person, lost in the city, they realize that they are in for much more than they bargained for, as a blizzard appears to be the least of the worries. Somewhere, out in the lake effect snowstorm, is a “rampaging supernatural creature” that can freeze the innards of a person by using its telekinetic abilities…
“This will definitely be Sam’s best film,” says producer Lamberson. “It’s a scary story, and he’s really evolved as a director and a cinematographer. When we shot Snow Shark, we knew that every time the snow melted on us, it returned in time for shooting. The opposite happened this time around: we started shooting late in the winter of 2015, and the snow kept disappearing. Other films came to town, which led to delays, and when production resumed this winter, there was hardly any snow. Fortunately Sam grabbed a lot of footage when we did have storms. It all makes the film’s environmental message that much more timely.”
