Pussy Riot, the Russian feminist punk rock band that incurred the wrath of Vladimir Putin’s oppressive regime will be spending Thursday evening in Buffalo, talking about feminist rights in Russia, LGBT rights, guerrilla activism, and their music (among other things).
The outspoken members of the band have been imprisoned, fled their native homeland, resisted arrest, staged unauthorized performances, disbanded, reunited, and are now traveling and telling their story, much to the chagrin of the Russian government.
Money raised during the tour is being directed to Zona Prava (Zone of Rights), which was founded by Pussy Riot members Masha Alekhina and Nadya Tolokonnikova. Zona Prava was established to help others in similar circumstances, who have been detained for speaking their minds in countries with oppressive governments. Masha (one of the founders) will be present at Hallwalls on Thursday evening.
