43North has announced that the winners of the ‘Year Two’ competition have officially taken up office residence at the 43North incubator at 640 Ellicott Street. The winning companies are now working out of the incubator, which is located in the boundaries of The Medical Campus. Only one company did not make the move – Ithaca, NY-based 43North finalist Uma Bioseed, which meant that additional funds were freed up that will go towards follow-on funding for winning teams, including marketing support. The funds were allocated as part of Governor Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion initiative.
11,000 registrants from 117 countries and all 50 states. These 11 teams came out on top, and were awarded four $250,000 prizes, six $500,000 prizes, and one $1 million grand prize.
“Buffalo’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is pleased to welcome another impressive array of 43North winning companies, who will take advantage of the momentum excitement and vast business support that our region has to offer,” said John T. Gavigan, executive director of 43North. “We will help these startups through a combination of funding, guidance and mentorship, to ensure the greatest chance of success.”
