One of Buffalo’s hardest working musicians, Sonny Baker, will be performing a solo set this Saturday, January 30th in the 9th Ward at Babeville. Baker (who also performs with many other Buffalo based bands, such A Hotel Nourishing and Lazlo Hollyfeld) has most recently released his “flesh it out” EP with Steak and Cake Records. The EP is a collection of alternative songs that showcase Sonny’s ability to create gutsy guitar riffs that mix perfectly with his narrative of slacker rock vocals. At times you can hear the echo of Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus or even Krill (be sure to listen to the EP’s first single, “You’re a Disaster/ I’m a Disaster”). Baker will be without band on Saturday so while we can’t expect the same intensity found on “flesh it out” you should definitely count on a more intimate version of the songwriter’s material.
Along with Sonny Baker, friends and shoe-gaze rockers The Leones will be taking the stage and bringing their own brand of dream-pop to Babeville. The Leones are newcomers to the scene but have been steadily gaining attention while prepping for the premiere of their debut LP titled “Ghost in the City”. Also on the bill for the night will be longtime member of the Buffalo music scene, singer/ song-writer Alex Berkley.
Be sure to stop by the 9th Ward at Babeville on Saturday to catch these notable local acts. Doors open at 7:00pm. Check out Sonny Baker’s single “I’m a Disaster/ You’re a Disaster” off his “flesh it out” EP below:
