A popular South Buffalo take-out pizzeria is expanding in a big way. Last week the Buffalo Planning Board approved plans for Imperial Pizza, located at 1035 Abbott Road, to construct a two-story addition at a cost of close to $2 million.
Upon visiting Imperial Pizza, it’s easy to see why they are expanding. The service is attentive and on-point, the pizza is good and the place is busy. The current tiny seating area consisting of a table and two chairs will become close to 7,000 square feet larger and will have a sports theme. The planned addition will fill in a parking lot fronting the corner of Abbott Road and Eden Street and will connect to the current building. Plans call for two adjacent homes at 1051 and 1055 Abbott Road, purchased in mid 2012, to be demolished for parking.
Co-owners Dave Powers and James Bouris have operated the eatery for 23 years. Employment is expected to increase from the current 50 workers to around 75 full and part-time employees. Construction could start as early as March with completion targeted for the fall.
The addition is being designed by Sutton Architects, who also designed an apartment building proposed for the corner of Colvin and Tacoma avenues in North Buffalo and the New York Beer Project on Transit Road in Lockport.
