Ginny and the Angels

Those who give tender loving care to young children as mothers or child care teachers deserve some TLC themselves. That’s why we invite Ginny Riordan to come to the Rose Garden Early Childhood Center and share her healing hands and products with our staff. We are a Steiner-based early childhood center and Ginny uses Dr. Hauschka skin care products that are based on Steiner’s indications about growing plants just as we are based on his indications about child development. Since we share an alliance with Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian scientist, philosopher and humanitarian; this connection brings us together.

Steiner did most of his work in the early 1900’s but was ahead of his time with his thinking about medicine, architecture, gardening, education and more. You can learn more about him through his books and the fruits of his labors, specifically anthroposophy as a path to personal development and a framework for human endeavors. His lectures and writing about biodynamic gardening as well as Waldorf education are used worldwide and are no less relevant today than when he introduced them a century ago. You will find them available in the Buffalo area as well as on every major continent in the world.

Angels_Buffalo-NY-2Linked by a forward thinking, pragmatic scientist philosopher is a great relationship starter, but what happens after that is unique to the individuals, for the philosophy must be personalized to live up to its potential. At the Rose Garden Early Childhood Center, we anticipate Ginny’s visit during our faculty meeting just before the winter holidays. I love to see the teachers faces before and after Ginny’s treatments; it’s nothing short of miraculous, hence the name Ginny and the Angels. Angels_Buffalo-NY-3Ginny visits us as a favor due to our philosophical connection, but the mainstay of her work is providing holistic skin care treatments in her skin care studio on the second floor at the corner of Bidwell and Elmwood avenues. How many times have we walked past that corner or sipped coffee in the café unaware of the fact that someone is receiving nurturing and health-supporting treatments just over our heads?

Fortunately, I know Ginny’s work first hand. She is not only a gifted practitioner in a carefully appointed and beautiful treatment room, but the Hauschka products she uses are gentle, high quality and effective. The raw materials are biodynamically grown, sustainably harvested and minimally processed without synthetic colors, fragrances or preservatives. What we put on our skin enters our systems, so it is wise to choose products as carefully as we choose our food and medicines.

Angels_Buffalo-NY-1A former massage therapist residing in Massachusetts and Minnesota, Ginny brings an interest in health and natural treatments to her work as an esthetician. She first learned about Dr. Hauschka products as a customer, but when she moved here with her Buffalo-native husband, she decided to practice esthetics. It’s our gain because she is the only esthetician using these treatments in town. I don’t know anywhere else in the city of Buffalo where you can purchase them, but Ginny offers the full line of skin care and cosmetic products. Contact her through her website before visiting to ensure she is not busy giving a treatment when you arrive, www.ginnyandtheangels.com. Just sampling the creams and lotions will remind you that humans cannot trump nature. My personal favorite is the rose cream which brings the scent of June’s bounty and beauty to my olfactory sense and skin year round.

Since we greet the world face-first, it makes sense that we would give it some attention. Ginny’s holistic knowledge provides her with the understanding that body imbalances become apparent in our skin and one of the ways to address them is through treatments. Her treatment choices include the one hour regenerating facial, a two hour Classic, foot treatments and a body salt glow. All of the treatments stimulate circulation, bringing energy-rich blood to the areas she works on, helping our skin to heal and to harmonize our body’s natural processes.

Angels_Buffalo-NY-4Ginny provides the outer care and recommends a home care regime for us to protect (think summer sun or winter winds) and nurture our skin. In addition to a rhythmic skin care program in the morning and evening, in order to look and feel our best, we also need to take care of our bodies with a healthy diet, sufficient sleep, fresh air, physical exercise and moderation in exposure to sun and elements overall.

What could be better than visiting an esthetician who has healing hands, a beautiful treatment room as well as green and effective products? If you find it, enjoy, but for now, I’m sure that a treatment with Ginny and the Angels treatments are as close to heavenly as it gets.
