Bark Avenue Pet Salon – A Happy Dog is Hard to Fake

Author: Amanda O’Farrell

I normally don’t take my dog to a grooming salon due to the stressful environment. There are generally multiple dogs housed in dangerous drying cages barking non stop, and groomers are moving from dog to dog to get them out as quickly as possible – this often leads to nicks and cuts during grooming and added stress to the experience. My dog would often start shaking as soon as we entered these types of places, and he would be visibly stressed and unhappy upon picking him up – howling as soon as I walked in the door and whimpering all the way home.

Not so at Bark Avenue Pet Salon. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by the owners in their cozy open layout salon. They immediately started asking what I would like done, if there were any concerning areas, if my dog had any health/physical issues, as well as any fears.

I have an older dog that has had multiple knee surgeries and therefore needs extra attention and care. He also has an extreme fear of bigger dogs. Bark Ave is the perfect salon for senior, anxious, and fearful dogs – definitely a spa experience. These are the reasons that in the past I’ve generally taken him to a groomer who works out of her home. I knew that she could give him the extra attention that he needs. But this is also an expensive route.

I was not disappointed by Bark Ave in the least. The business is strictly a salon, so all of their attention is given to your dog’s grooming experience – no daycare or boutique here. My dog was ready in exactly two hours. He was as calm as ever when I walked in the door… not even a bark to acknowledge my presence! He definitely had the “I could hang out here all day” attitude (normally I can hear him howling as soon as I lock my car). There was only one other small dog in the salon at the time of pickup. My dog’s haircut was perfect – not a nick to be seen, which is hard with older dogs as they’re lumpy and have strange growths. Bark Ave uses shampoos and products that will not aggravate your pet’s skin and my dog received a blueberry facial to help with his old man stains.

Buffalo-Doggie-Buffalo-NY-1I have tried a handful of grooming salons over the years and I am most satisfied with Bark Ave. There is nothing worse than knowing your best friend is having an uncomfortable experience. With Bark Ave you know they are relaxed and will not have any issues (behavior issues, skin allergies, bleeding cuts, etc.)

Especially having a senior dog that is also anxious, it’s nice to have a salon that finally understands these needs. They accommodate your pet’s personality, which is a nice change. A lot of other salons promise this, but only Bark Ave has delivered in my experience. I also really enjoy that they post your dog’s photo on Facebook – all the dogs look very happy and pleased – that’s hard to fake.
