For those looking for the “Socially Conscious” shopping experience, you might be interested in attending the ShopCraft Pop Up Market, which is being held this evening (Thursday) at Thin Ice on Elmwood Avenue. Thin Ice has teamed up with ShopCraft to present myriad locally owned businesses, featuring eco-friendly, handmade and USA made products.
“We all prefer to purchase products that are eco-conscious, but reading labels and researching products every time you shop can become cumbersome,” said Jennifer Morris, proprietor of Paperette – one of the businesses participating in the shopping event. “We wanted to offer a place for consumers that takes the work out of shopping with an environmentally friendly mindset.”
Altogether, there will be four eco-minded local artisans showcasing their wares at Thin Ice, from 5-9pm, which will kick off the Christmas in the Village shopping weekend. Alpine Made, C Designs, Lady Fingers Handmade, and Paperette will be joined by First Light Creamery, Natures Apothecary, Community Beer Works, and Arrowhead Spring Vineyards.
“We believe in supporting women owned businesses,” said Kerry Bieter, owner and artisan of Alpine Made, when asked about the all-women artisan collective.
“It fosters equality, and emphasizes women being seen as entrepreneurs and not solely as consumers,” added Megan of Lady Fingers Handmade.
“Working with Therese from Thin Ice has been great. One of the best things about the small business community in Buffalo is how willing everyone is to help each other succeed. It is what makes our community unique,” noted Christa Penner, of C Designs.
Along with providing numerous thoughtful gift ideas, ShopCraft and Thin Ice will be co-hosting a fundraising raffle (tickets are $1, or 5 for $6), which will raise money for 5 Loaves farm. The farm aligns with all of the aforementioned missions, including providing quality, sustainable, locally made products to a community that has come to appreciate the wholesome intent that each artisan strives to achieve.
