No doubt, you’ve heard that much-anticipated new restaurant Lloyd Taco Factory officially opened December 21. It’s not exactly breaking news at this point.
You’ve probably also heard that the Lloyd folks are making fresh tortillas, both corn and flour varieties, as well as the masa for the former. The extra effort makes a difference; both are noticeably more delicious than standard.
You may not have heard that, at least for a little while, you should be prepared to wait to place your order and then be prepared to wait longer for your food, especially at peak dinner rush. On Tuesday night, the line wrapped around the restaurant by 6:00 p.m. People are excited about this place for good reason, and they are descending on it in droves. Be patient.
You should also know that crowds plus music can mean a lot of ambient noise. If you are looking for a cozy, quiet meal with hushed conversation, you might want to wait a few weeks until the initial fuss dies down, or go at off times.
But whatever you do in the face of the crowds and noise, hear this: avoid the temptation to get your order to go. The reason? You’ll miss out on the cocktails, and they are pretty effing great.
Try the Love & Hate (mezcal, creme de cassis, Lillet, lemon), which is an exceptionally balanced drink that will make a mezcal fan out of any detractor.
