Over the years, I always heard stories of a white albino deer roaming the lands around the Buffalo River. A couple years ago, I actually spotted the critter from across the river, while hanging out at Silo City. Now Tim Clancy has managed to capture a close up photo of the deer, which many locals refer to as “The Ghost Deer”. What a magnificent creature he is. Even the young buck’s antlers appear to be white.
Fortunately for this rare creature, he has found a home at Tifft Nature Preserve where hunters are not allowed. Otherwise I wouldn’t have even posted this photo, for fear that he would be hunted down. To think that this buck is able to roam freely on a nature preserve within the city limits is simply wonderful. It makes me happy to think that there are places nearby, where we can appreciate nature without worrying about the future of the animals that call the land home.
