Considered “The most important Buffalo theatrical presentation in in the last century”, the world premiere of Buffalo’s Darkest Day is sure to have audiences clamoring to Shea’s to catch Nickel City Opera’s rendition and dramatization of The Assassination of President William McKinley.
During the course of two acts and four scenes, the action will unfold in settings that include The Pan American Exposition, The Milburn House and The Czolgosz Interrogation – all pertinent components of McKinley’s final days before, during and after the assassination.
This world premiere opera will feature a chorus, a full orchestra, along with a new score by Persis Vehar. Not only is the operatic composition thrilling and chilling on its own, this is the first time that Nickel City Opera will be performing at Shea’s… and certainly not the last. Nickel City Opera is attempting to do for opera in Buffalo what the BPO has done for classical music – opera should be a mainstay in this city.
At long last, the opera company will have a chance to shine on a glorious stage in the heart of downtown Buffalo. The performance, conceived by Valerian Ruminski with a Libretto by Gabrielle Vehar, is said to be the first of its kind – an opera written for Buffalo that recounts what many seriously consider “Buffalo’s Darkest Day”.
