Anyone who wants to look at last night as a moral victory probably gets excited when the participation trophies are handed out too. Those weren’t the same old Patriots, that team was a former shell of itself.
Once again, the Bills refused to take advantage and as the defense shined, the effort was completely wasted by dropped balls (Woods), fumbles (Leodis) and a critical missed field goal. Highlighting the parade of errors was Leodis McKelvin, and when he wasn’t calling for a fair catch with no Patriot within 10 yards of him, he was fumbling the game away. Why in the world is he EVER on the field when the game is on the line?
Rex Ryan has been saving that scheme all season, and it flustered Brady beyond all belief. If the Bills had a QB that could actually take advantage of having weapons like Watkins and Clay, that game would have been over by half time, as Brady did NOTHING in the second half that could have mounted a comeback.
Instead, Buffalo continued to make mistake after mistake and allow Brady to hang around just long enough to put the Bills back in their respective place. Let’s not pretend that last night’s Patriots were some unstoppable force, and that coming within a TD of tying the game is some great accomplishment. That was a banged up New England team that had no right even being in the game let alone winning it.
Our defense did what they were SUPPOSED to do against an injury riddled lineup. As we wait to get the injury report on Tyrod, all we can do is ponder all the “what ifs” that continue to surface every single time Buffalo faces a real challenge.
A good team wins last night and leads the charge to a playoff spot. The Bills, well, they just aren’t that team…..
