For many of us, Vince Guaraldi’s music has been with us our entire lives. Some of his best known music is the Christmas soundtrack for the animated television program made famous by cartoonist Charles Schulz in 1965. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the work, and will be presented live, in its entirety in downtown Buffalo.
Reflex Productions proudly presents A Guaraldi Christmas in the City, starring Gruvology, pianist Linda Appleby, the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts 5/6 grade select choir, with special guest Anthony Re. The event will be held at Shea’s Smith Theatre, 660 Main St. in beautiful downtown Buffalo, Thursday December 17, 2015 at 7pm.
Gruvology, formed by pianist Walter Kemp III, and guitarist Bernard Kunz has been a staple in the local jazz scene for a number of years now, and has won numerous awards, including Buffalo Music Awards for best jazz act. Earlier this year they toured Western Europe, and have additional tours in the works.
Linda R. L. Appleby who was recently inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, will perform selections on the piano. The BAVPA select choir will complete the ensemble of performers. It will include 10 of the top 5th and 6th grade performers in the program. They will be under the direction of Mrs. Karen Saxon.
Anthony Re will be the special guest opener and will thrill the audience with his trio, crooning some of your favorite jazz standards.
This promises to be an unforgettable evening of some of the most wonderful music of our lives. Tickets are available through Eventbrite here.
The event is sponsored by The Joe Lang Foundation, Furnishings, Brandbuilderz Media.
