It’s time to mark your calendars for the annual Thanksgiving Toast – a worldwide event with roots that run deep in Buffalo. It was thirteen years ago that Buffalonian Geoff Schutte found himself living half way around the world, disconnected from his friends and family in Buffalo. At the time, he felt that it was a good idea to get everyone together, to raise a glass and cheers to the people who he was with, and those that were far away, on Thanksgiving day, at exactly 7pm (Buffalo time).
Since that first toast, the tradition has grown to encompass many people who find themselves looking to connect with others who they miss and love. It’s also a way to mark an exact moment when the world is locked together in a thoughtful toast, while giving thanks to the people that they are fortunate to have in their lives.
Last year the toast was held (in unison) in over 25 countries and 30 states. To mark the occasion, Geoff sets up an annual Facebook event page, where people send in stories and photos of their toasts. You can visit the 13th Annual International Thanksgiving Toast page, by clicking here.
I’m sure that this year, peace and the safety of friends and family will be on everyone’s collective mind, as the world is in need of a group hug in 2015.
