The range of ages inside the First Niagara Center last night was as wide as any extended family function, some folks clearly in their upper 70’s and 80’s and young parents with their children. The lead up to this show was a quick one, not like some of the shows today where ticket sales start a year prior to the show, this time it was a short run up, and the anticipation was exciting. Sir Paul finally playing a show here in Buffalo, and it all hit the levels which were expected.
A fantastic journey through his story telling, paying tribute to his former band mates who have passed, Jimi and others. His conversation with the audience in-between songs was as engaging and genuine as the music, a 3 hour stream of songs that shaped our lives and a couple of new ones for the future. The 73 year old McCartney rocked the stage and on the final scheduled stop on this 2015 tour looked like he could have played for another 3 hours. The production level was off the charts as you might expect and he made sure everyone knew how much he appreciated his crew, his band, his instruments and those who have supported his musical career over the last 50 years.
When I asked my almost 10 year old son, who I find often playing my drums to “Abby Road”, what his favorite part was, he responded with the Wings classic “Live and Let Die” which incorporated more pyro and lasers than most 4th of July celebrations… “Hey Jude” and the final trilogy of “Golden Slumbers”, “Carry That Weight” and “The End” were awesome too!
