On Monday, October 12, GO Bike Buffalo and the Scajaquada Corridor Coalition (SCC) are planning a giant Slow Roll group bike ride down the Scajaquada Expressway. The ride organizers are eagerly awaiting approval from the New York State Department of Transportation and City of Buffalo to move ahead with the event, which needs to accumulate some funding before the ride is viable (funds will go towards permit, insurance, and a company to tackle the road closure). Therefore, the team is asking cyclists and advocates of downgrading the expressway to a boulevard to make a donation to www.gofundme.com/slowrollbuffalo.
Justin Booth, Executive Director of GObike Buffalo and member of the Scajaquada Corridor Coalition stated, “The goal of the Slow Roll Parkway Revival ride is to give riders of all ages and ability the chance to experience the community vision of a bikable, walkable Scajaquada Expressway. Since the Slow Roll is all about promoting harmony, community character, and improved connectivity, it only makes sense to Slow Roll down the Scajaquada.
“We are calling on concerned community members to help us cover the substantial costs of the road closure with a financial contribution of any amount – and then join us for a Slow Roll Parkway Revival.”
Contingent on the funds being raised, and the pending approval, the tentative game plan is to begin and end at Parkside Lodge on Monday, October 12th – meeting at 5:30pm, rolling at 6pm.
