A local fan favorite company has taken big steps to help combat the fight against Muscular Dystrophy. Just last night my friend ordered a bologna sandwich at The Parkside Meadow (best pickles in Buffalo), and when the waitress asked her if there was anything else that she needed, she said, “Mustard.” Our waitress ended up bringing out a bottle of Weber’s, much to my friend’s delight. She said, “When I lived in Seattle, I would ask my friends to ship me bottles of Weber’s – it’s something that I just can’t live without.”
Then, just this morning, the news of Buffalo-based Heintz & Weber Co’s fight against Muscular Dystrophy came across the wire. The company has created a three pack assortment of condiments – Weber’s famous Horseradish Mustard, Hot Texas Sandwich Sauce and Piccalilli Relish – that will help to raise funds for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (a nonprofit organization that is an integral part of Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy research).
The trifecta packaging features Weber’s owners Steven and Suzanne Desmond’s oldest son Francis who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) as a child. The entire Desmond family is dedicated to contributing in any way that they can to enhance the life of Francis, while raising awareness and funds for the fight against Muscular Dystrophy.
The label on the Weber’s box tells the story of Francis, who has used the medium of art to help communicate and express himself throughout his life. By teaming up with his parents, Francis was able to publish a book called “A Life With A Purpose”, which has raised over $8,500 towards DMD research.
“As parents and business owners, it is important for us to support organizations that fight for children and young adults like Francis around the world,” said Suzanne Desmond, granddaughter of Heintz & Weber co-founder Joseph C. Weber.
“The new three-pack will begin appearing on the store shelves of local independent supermarkets in the coming days and weeks,” said Steven Desmond. “And beginning today, they are available at our corporate office and production facility, located at 150 Reading St. in South Buffalo, between South Park Avenue and Hopkins Street.”
“We hope the entire Western New York community will come together and support this great cause and give hope to families dealing with a muscular dystrophy diagnosis,” added Steven Desmond. “And with the holiday season right around the corner, we’re also hoping that other local businesses will join our effort and consider the new three-pack for their corporate gift-giving opportunities. Every dollar we can donate to DMD research will make a difference right here in our community!”
