El Dia de los Muertos @ Casa de Arte

Once you’ve recovered from the ghoulish delights of Halloween, you might want to continue on with the theme of skulls and skeletons by celebrating The Day of the Dead (El Dia de los Muertos) tradition.

Day-Dead-Buffalo-NY-1On November 1, Casa de Arte will be hosting a reception for the opening of a show that is dedicated to the memories of our ancestors. The exhibit will feature installations, sculptures and mixed media works of local and Mexican artists.

More importantly, this is a way to honor those who have moved onto the “other” world. Mexican tradition is to bring “ofrendas” offerings (favorite food and drink) to honor and remember those who are no longer with us. The annual celebration is open to everyone.

Artists include Mara Odette Guerrero-Williams and Bill Jungels.  The exhibit runs through Sunday, November 14th. Painted skulls will be available to place on altars to honor loved ones.

Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.
