The STR Columbia was guided by tug, down the Buffalo River yesterday, on its way to its rightful berth at Silo City. All along the way, curiosity seekers enjoyed the sights and sounds of the procession, as smaller boats led the way into the Buffalo Harbor.
Buffalo Project Coordinator Dana Saylor was pleased to have viewers lining the river as the ship made its prestigious arrival, escorted by the Spirit of Buffalo schooner and the Edward Cotter fireboat. “Welcome to the Canadiana’s sister ship,” stated Dana. “The oldest remaining excursion steam vessel in the country!”
A friend of mine (Tom Blanchard) snapped a short video on his camera, as the ship was towed down the river, to the sounds of a bagpiper who played as people cheered nearby. Photographer Gene Witkowski managed to snap a few nice shots of the STR Columbia, which are show here. To lean more about the ship, and her stay in Buffalo, click here.
