Artvoice is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. As part of the celebration, the alternative publication is hosting an event at a wonderfully obscure location along the Buffalo River, owned by Heritage Discovery Center (HDC).
The building is a 10,000 square foot, one-storey industrial structure that, for the most part, is off Buffalo’s radar. Most people familiar with the area are aware of HDC’s Steel Plant Museum building on Lee Street (across South Park). The Artvoice event building sits right along the Buffalo River on 20 acres of land, which means that organizers will have access to acreage along the river (for bands and DJs), a giant parking lot (for food trucks), and indoor space for artists, performers, etc.
“It’s never been used for an event before and it’s perfect,” said Artvoice publisher Jamie Moses.
The art community is rallying behind Artvoice on this one. A “Quarter in the Nickel City” is certainly an achievement that will not go unnoticed. Along with hosting the event at a super cool waterfront location, organizers will be showcasing many of Buffalo’s artistic talents, including “aerial dancers, interactive artists, Madd Tiki Tattoo, the city’s best deejays, Igloo Crew, Xotec, Sully, 3PO, Bacon, and live music from Soul Patch, The Naturalists, Super Killer Robots, and The Tins.”
We’re less than a week away from celebrating the Artvoice “Quarter in the Nickel City” achievement. In that 25-year time period, the publication has helped to promote countless bands, artists, venues, businesses, community activists, etc. Now it’s time to support Artvoice, and the artists who will be helping to make this a memorable event that will resound for years to come.
“History was made 25 years ago. Come make history again.”
