Progress is being made on the installation of an anchor that was formerly atop the USS Little Rock. Paul J. Marzello Sr., Project Coordinator for the Naval & Military Park Landscape Project, informed me that on July 8, 2015, the anchor was craned to a flat bed truck and hauled away by Atlas Steel to General Welding & Fabricating (Made in America Store) in Elma where it will be sandblasted, painted, and several chain links will be welded together.
“Meanwhile, Lehigh Construction (General Contractors) are doing the site work as they lay the concrete foundation for the anchor to rest (at the Naval & Military Park),” said Marzello. “Southside Precast Products is preparing the custom fabricated concrete panels that will adorn the exterior. The anchor will then be transported back to the Naval Park and craned into position for the final concrete pour sometime in late September/early October. The Rotary Club of Buffalo donated $10,000 for the project; however, most of the contractors are donating both time and materials. Project value is estimated at $50,000 to date.”
