A third retailer has opened at HarborCenter. This time it’s a business that I frequented in my youth. Clayton’s Toy Store was once located on Elmwood Avenue, which is the neighborhood where I grew up. At one point it relocated to Williamsville, leaving the city without a toy store (until TreeHouse opened many years later).
Now Clayton’s Toyland has returned to the city, opening a perfectly suited shop at Canalside, inside HarborCenter. By perfectly suited, I am referring to the types of toys that owners Kellie Klos and Tera McElligott, along with Sales and Marketing Manager Hallie Wright, have chosen for this location.
Knowing full well that replicating the existing formula would probably not fly at Canalside, the team decided to stock inventory that would appeal to waterfront visitors.
Looking around the toy store, it’s easy to find myriad items that are perfectly suited for Canalside. There are kites, throwing discs, paddle ball games, soccer balls, kiddie sunglasses and umbrellas, flying machines, scooters, traditional board games, superhero and princess outfits, pirate dolls, boats that float, toy cars, Stomp Rockets, UFO Solar Balloons, chalktrail racers, balls and gloves, chalk and markers… everything that a family might need to pass the time at the canals or on The Great Lawn.
If you like what you see, and you end up spending $40 or more, Clayton’s will give you a free gift – a cute, soft and cuddly buffalo pillow pet, as a way to say thanks.
While toys have certainly changed since I was little, the imagination has not. Clayton’s carries a ton of fun and thoughtful games and toys that are not only perfect for incorporating into your fun-filled day at Canalside, the items will also be a blast to take home to keep your kids entertained for days, months and years to come.
It’s great to see this sort of retail returning to the city. There’s nothing better than watching all of the families, as they walk around enjoying themselves at this waterfront destination. Now there is an added attraction that will have kids talking up a part of the city that continues to impress. I can’t even imagine what’s going to happen when Explore & More Children’s Museum opens!
