Today, Saturday 15, 2015, from 12pm to 8pm, the University Heights Arts Association (UHAA) will be hosting its 2nd Annual Arts Festival. The festival brings together more than 100 artists, writers, filmmakers, musicians, dancers, crafters, and businesses, that will be showing/performing at non-traditional settings throughout the University District.
Festival-goers will be able to find myriad artists set up in parking lots, neighborhood businesses, and various other obscure settings, from Andrew’s Episcopal Church (Lisbon Avenue) to Winspear Avenue. Along with performances and public works of art, the festival also promotes entertainment and hands-on art activities, all thanks to the association’s Partnering Program.
The core of the festival will feature 25 art spaces at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and the parking lot of nearby AllCare Physical Therapy. There will also be an outdoor Zumba Dance Class, along with head-dress workshops (in tandem with Caribana Buffalo). Local businesses will get into the act, by providing hands-on craft demonstrations.
The UHAA St. Andrew Sculpture Garden (see above) will come alive with artists and artisans (and their works), including Mollie Atkinson, Ken Kash, Richard Rockford with Robert Then, William Herod, and Lawrence Kinney. The team will be helping to design a backdrop -“Wood, Metal and Stone” exhibit for “Poets on Art in the Garden”. Featured poets include Peter Siedlecki, Celeste Lawson, Karen Lee Lewis, Richard LaClair, Irene Sipos, and Theresa Wyatt – the group will be led by Patricia Tansey.
Visitors can look forward to performances that include acoustic guitar, traditional Indian music, and positive rap music.
Entertainers include Dynamic Drum Arts, MC Zill, Kate Bernard, UG and the Youngins, The Buffalo Ukelele Club, Kerflugidy, and Morris Tucker.
Relativity Belly Dance, Buffalo International Film Festival and BuffaloVibe will also be on-hand, as will a number of health-related art groups.
