LGBTQ Families Fun Day: Every Hero Has A Story

LGBTQ Families Fun Day is an ongoing event series that is run by the Pride Center of WNY. The series offers opportunities to LGBTQ families that range from day trip outings to cultural performances.

The next event coming up will be a set of three performances conducted by The Wondermakers (an interactive children’s theater company). The interactive triptych consists of folktales from Kenya, Puerto Rico, and Denmark. Unfolding in an intimate theatrical setting, families are encouraged to explore the topic of “What is a hero?”

In this day and age, the world needs more heroes… but what are heroes, and where are they? Are they simply found in comic books and on TV? Or are they people who live among us? By simply exploring the idea of “hero” in a fun and interactive way, eyes and doors will open, thanks to the characters and their heartfelt stories.

“Rabbit and The Waterhole” (Kenya)

Children from the audience become the turtles who save the village’s water supply.

“The Ogre” (Puerto Rico)

The little Queen Bee saves the family and the house.

“The Magical Knapsack” (Denmark)

Hans’s sacrifice and kindness help everyone in the kingdom!
