This Thursday is July 16, otherwise known as 7.16. 716 is also the number of our beloved area code. Remember when we almost lost our area code to Rochester?
Over the years I’ve talked to a few people who collectively wondered why Buffalo doesn’t celebrate July 16 in true blue Buffalo fashion. Just think about all of the businesses, and organizations that could do something special to recognize the date, not to mention the singular efforts from each and every one of us. Why not wear a Buffalo t-shirt on that day? Retailers could offer $7.16 off clothing purchases. Each restaurant could offer a toast to the city at 7:16pm… the ideas are limitless.
If everyone participated in his or her own way, then the Buffalo celebration could eventually go from a grassroots undertaking to a city-wide celebration.
This Thursday I will be celebrating my wedding anniversary. In a stroke of luck, we randomly chose the middle of July (a Saturday) four years ago, to tie the knot. Once we realizing the significance of the date, thanks to a friend put 2+2 together (we didn’t plan it that way), we decided to capitalize on the coincidence (hence the groomsmen’s jackets that were printed up at Pasteurized Tees). We also discussed celebrating the 7.16 date each year with our friends moving forward. So, after four years, we’re inviting you to celebrate 716 with us, and the rest of the city.
Happy 716 Day!
