There are two amazing aspects of the annual Buffalo Poker Run. The first, is seeing all of the incredible boats on display in the harbor at Templeton Landing before the race. It’s ridiculous eye candy. Then there’s the actual race, which can be more heard than seen. By the time these racers leave the Erie Basin Marina, they are fast approaching speeds of 100+ miles per hour.
Last year there was an uptick in registrants, with 118 boats competing for bragging rights and top prizes. It’s an exciting time to be at the Buffalo waterfront. Rarely will you get a chance to see a bunch of boats like this all in one setting.
The speed boats head out along the Niagara River, picking up cards (like a deck of cards) before circling back to the party bars on Lake Erie.
