In Buffalo, carts are not always designated specifically for food. Often times, being mobile has its advantages, no matter the product. In the University District, art peddlers have taken the concept of mobile carts to an entirely different level.
The University Heights Arts Association has created something called an Art Cart. The cart is fully stocked with brushes, paints, and anything else that allows passersby to get into an artistic groove. The cart is accompanied by tents, chairs, tables, and easels. Artists can also bring some of their own supplies.
The object is not limited to painters. Visual artists, musicians, performance artists, small theater groups/actors, poetry/prosewriters, crafters, and food artists all take part in what is called “Take-Away Booth Art Projects”. Artists interested in learning more about the initiative can get involved by clicking here.
The event line-up of “Take-Away Booth Art Projects” kicked off with “There’s Still Life at the Market” at the University Community Farmer’s Market. The cart returned to the market a second time for “Watercolor Resist and More!”. Then it hit the road, traveling to the Buffalo Mini Maker Faire, where 120 people interacted with the cart.
