The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) has transformed an outdated ferry landing at the Outer Harbor into a new kayak and canoe launch. Workers converted the landing by building docks that incorporate a modern, safe, easy to use, EZ-Launch system. The project’s price tag was only $14,000, and is said to be one of a number of short term fixes along the Outer Harbor that will help to attract additional visitors to the waterfront.
“ECHDC is thinking of new creative, quick and inexpensive ways to bring people to the Outer Harbor this summer, “said Robert Gioia. “We encourage people to use the new kayak launch; when you are done boating check out some music, history tours or other unique activities for a refreshing new perspective on Buffalo’s waterfront.”
Anchor Marina of Grand Island installed the launch system, which includes a floating platform, guide rails and launch rollers.
Assemblyman Sean Ryan said, “The new kayak launch is another exciting addition to Buffalo’s waterfront, which will help to increase the public’s access to the water. Combined with the new Queen City Bike Ferry, visitors to Buffalo’s inner and outer harbors will have a great experience this summer, and will be able to easily access the many events and attractions on our waterfront all season long.”
The new watercraft amenity is located at Wilkeson Pointe.
