Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP) is rolling out its Mobile Market to six locations this summer. Each location was strategically chosen, in order to get healthy food options into communities that have limited choices when it comes to fruits, vegetables and the like. MAP teamed up with a number of businesses and organizations to procure spaces where they can roll up and get to work doling out their farm products, many of which are grown right on the city’s west Side.
The overall state of Americans’ health is out of whack. Struggling families are given easy access to cheap, unhealthy fast food, that might taste good, but it’s not healthy when eaten every day. That’s why the MAP Farm Truck is so important. Without these types of “markets on wheels”, families typically resort to the low hanging fruit, which in most cases is fast food. Well, here’s another type of fast food – one that cruises around low income neighborhoods offering healthy fresh produce to those who need it most.
Below is a handy dandy schedule, with respective locations. See the mapped locations here. Also visit MAP on Facebook.
