One of my favorite North Buffalo Italian eateries has expanded its footprint in order to create additional seating. La Tavola owners knocked down a wall on the restaurant’s second level and took over a vacant apartment in the back, in order to move forward with the expansion.
Aside from the additional seating, the acquisition of the extra space has opened up additional “doors”, or windows of opportunity. With the apartment gone, there is now access to the building’s backyard, which owners will soon turn into a small beer garden with outdoor pizza oven.
Between the great patio that fronts Hertel, the expanded seating on the second level of the restaurant, and news of the backyard addition, La Tavola is taking full advantage of a hot district that continues to get hotter.
Besides serving up great bistro-style food, the trattoria has managed to make a name for itself on the pizza front. Their pizza is about as authentic and artisanal as any pizza in the region. Whenever I’m craving a traditional pizza, I hit this place up, and I have yet to be disappointed. Try the Rusty Chain brisket pizza the next time you go. It’s a slice of heaven in the heart of Hertel.
