Conventus Full-Floor Tenant Named

Ciminelli Real Estate Corp. officials told Buffalo Rising that its Conventus building was nearly fully-leased during a tour in April. Today word is out on one of the full-floor tenants Ciminelli could not name at the time. Kinex Pharmaceuticals is expected to take the 46,000 sq.ft. sixth floor of the complex securing its future in Buffalo. Kinex is a specialty oncology pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of next generation therapies for cancer diseases and supportive therapies.

Retaining Kinex is a big win for Buffalo and Conventus. The Buffalo News has the scoop:

Kinex Pharmaceuticals, widely considered the most promising life sciences company to come out of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, is expected to move into the Conventus building, securing its future in Buffalo, The Buffalo News has learned.

The company, which has recently secured millions in international funding for its early-stage cancer drugs, had considered leaving, robbing the region of the benefits of its expected growth.

Kinex would be relocating its 100 current employees from the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute on Ellicott Street.

Signing Kinex will leave just one unleased floor at Conventus though Ciminelli is talking to a potential tenant for the fifth floor space. Kaleida Health has leased the second and third levels and UBMD has taken the fourth floor. New York State is locating a biomedical research facility on the building’s seventh floor. The 46,000 sq.ft. of space will be the home of the Buffalo Medical Innovation and Commercialization Hub and will be anchored by Albany Molecular Research, Inc. (AMRI), a global contract research and manufacturing organization offering customers fully integrated drug discovery, development, and manufacturing services, and PerkinElmer, a pharmaceutical equipment manufacturer.

First Niagara Bank will be opening a branch on the building’s first floor at the corner of Main and High streets.  With the exception of a small area of office space, the balance of the ground floor space will be a mix of retail and restaurant/food service tenants.

The building has a two-level, 318 space parking ramp underneath the building that is now open and being operated by Allpro Parking.

Kideney Architects designed the building and LPCiminelli was general contractor.
