Lloyd Cole and The Commotions was single-handedly the band that led me down the music path where I am today. If it was not for the sounds of Lloyd Cole, I might not have tuned into the music of WBNY 91.3 (Buff State radio station) as early as I did. It was my older cousin who turned me onto Lloyd Cole – the vocals and the music arrangements were unlike anything that I heard before. Since that time, there have been few bands that have had such an impact on my life.
On Friday, June 19, 2015, Lloyd Cole is coming to the Albright-Knox to perform an acoustic show as part of Animotion – a Summer Celebration at The Gallery. The Lloyd Cole performance is part of a tribute to film and video called “Screen Play: Life in an Animated World”. The event will take place both indoors and outdoors at the Albright Knox. Following is a breakdown of the event:
INDOORS
Experience “Screen Play: Life in an Animated World,” a comprehensive survey of the use of animation in contemporary art. The exhibition gathers together almost fifty captivating film, video, and immersive installations from the past twenty-five years by more than three dozen artists from twenty nations.
OUTDOORS
Transition from 2D to 3D in the video gaming arcades. Stroll through food stations inspired by our favorite animated characters and games, from Donald Duck to Donkey Kong, all created by the Super Smash Team at Rich’s Catering & Special Events. Join Mario and Luigi and control your moves at the ’80s dance party! The legendary Lloyd Cole will light up the summer sky with a performance.
