According to poet CAConrad, “There are few people alive today…who know as much about poetry as Rachel Blau DuPlessis does.”
Author of Drafts, one of the major contemporary Anglophone long poems, DuPlessis’ work has been said to “actively dismantle old-style clichés of the female poet as a sensitive skylark.” Along with these clichés, DuPlessis also dismantles the expectations of what a poem can be, publishing texts that combine her poetry with collage and glosses as in Graphic Novella and “Churning the Ocean of Milk.” Professor Emerita at Temple University in Philadelphia, DuPlessis has also written six critical books from Cambridge, Iowa and Alabama University Presses (often on poetry, poetics and gender), co-edited several anthologies including The Feminist Memoir Project, and edited The Selected Letters of George Oppen.
