D’Youville College is redeveloping the former Gateway-Longview headquarters complex at 606 Niagara Street into an 85,000 sq.ft. Arts, Science and Education building. The $25 million building is scheduled to open for classes later this year.
The new facility will house health care and computer laboratories, “smart” classrooms, and faculty offices. An existing 50 car parking lot located behind the building on Prospect Avenue will be retained for student, faculty and staff use. The new building will feature a small café area in the atrium of the structure accessible from the parking lot.
The two-acre site encompasses a major portion of the block on Niagara Street bordered by Jersey Street and Prospect Avenue, close to D’Youville’s main campus on nearby Porter Avenue. D’Youville purchased the property in November 2012.
A 25,000 square foot structure that was built in 1928 bordering Jersey Street has been incorporated into the new building. The remainder of the former Gateway-Longview complex was demolished.
Uniland Development was retained by D’Youville to oversee the planning and construction of the building . The ‘design/build’ team also includes Stieglitz Snyder Architecture and M/E Engineering.
D’Youville has undertaken over $50 million in facilities improvements in and around its west side campus since 1999.
