The story of Buffalo’s rebirth is about to be officially told. Not in bite-sized social media morsels. Not by an author pounding away on his or keyboard. Instead, the story will be told by filmmakers in a full length feature film called Buffalo Hates You, Too: A Love Story (BHU2). And who better to pull off this tremendous undertaking and daring feat? Director John Paget of course – the filmographer who has already successfully created a number of featurettes that capture the city’s comeback in pulsating living color (Buffalo: America’s Best Designed City, This Place Matters and Buffalo For Real).
According to Paget, when asked about upcoming undertaking, “I’ve been thrilled to capture short stories about Buffalo’s identity during my career, but there is so much more to discover. Especially as Buffalo changes shape, the story of its development is much larger than a ten minute video can portray. This film gives me the opportunity to fully explore the city’s changing landscape.”
Paget will be joined by a recent transplant to Buffalo, writer and producer Eric Porterfield, who will accompany the director in his journey to capture the true light of Buffalo’s renaissance on film. Porterfield is best known for his work 365 Days: A Year in Happy Valley (distributed by FilmBuff).
“We happened to visit Buffalo on a whim a few years ago and we were stunned by how little the reality of this city matches the national rhetoric about it. I’m impressed by the authenticity and professionalism displayed throughout John’s body of work. This film gives us the opportunity to share who Buffalo is globally; we hope it will be the first of many films that use the Queen City as its backdrop,” shares Porterfield.
Film crews are already gearing up for initial shoots, which are scheduled to take place in June. Seeing that this is a film about the beating heart of Buffalo, there would be no surprise to see the team spreading out around the city in search of the city’s true identity. Get ready world… the story of Buffalo is about to take you by storm.
