Ted’s Makes it Official: Opening This Summer on Chippewa

Ted’s Hot Dogs today officially announced plans to locate the company’s newest restaurant on the first floor of the Hampton Inn on W. Chippewa Street near S. Elmwood Avenue. The upcoming location is anticipated to “fire up” in the spring/summer of 2015 and will feature a distinctive design that recalls the history of Ted’s Hot Dogs and the company’s humble origins on Buffalo’s west side near the Peace Bridge.

MrTed_Downtown6“We’ve had our eye on the city for quite some time, as there is definitely a vibe in downtown Buffalo that is making the area attractive to new businesses and those wanting to be part of the urban resurgence” said Joe Drust, Chief Executive Officer of Ted’s Hot Dogs.

Initial plans for the Ted’s Hot Dogs Chippewa Street location include the customized interior design theme that “everything old is new again.” Ted’s Hot Dogs rich history will be captured and felt throughout the restaurant, while customers can also expect an environment that speaks to the taste and feel of summer 365 days a year.  BMS Design Studio and L2K Design have been retained to design the restaurant.

Planned features include:

  • Re-creation of the original toolshed location from under the Peace Bridge where Ted’s Hot Dogs got its start in 1927.
  • Indoor seating and dining areas that offer a more casual backyard BBQ experience and not a typical fast food restaurant setting.
  • A new patio to relax and “escape the city hustle and bustle,” featuring custom outdoor bench-style seating, greenery and unique lighting.

“The company settled on a great location in the Chippewa Entertainment District that will allow us to institute a really iconic and memorable restaurant design, while at the same time appealing to a number of different customer audiences,” continued Drust.

“We expect a steady lunch crowd of downtown office workers, tourists and visitors staying at any of the five hotels in the adjacent area, folks doing business at the new Delaware North headquarters, families and sports fans taking in Bisons, Bandits and Sabres games, as well as all those Buffalonians out for a night on the town.”

In addition to the one-of-a-kind restaurant design, the new Ted’s Hot Dogs location will test and introduce an online ordering system, allowing customers to pre-order and pick-up at a designated time. The Chippewa Street location is expected to offer a familiar menu of high quality charcoal broiled items available at both traditional times and extended weekend hours.
