Runway – “Innovation”

On April 25, 2015, Buffalo State students enrolled in the Fashion and Textile Technology (FTT) department will have an opportunity to bring their creations front and center, as part of the fashion and design show known as Runway. The event allows students to not only show off their talents alongside the works of professional designers, it also offers the ability to participate in organizing the monumental undertaking.

“Students have created designs that aren’t repetitive or often seen,” said Erin Habes, lecturer in the Fashion and Textile Technology (FTT) Department, which hosts the event. “They really have been innovative in everything from loungewear to sportswear.”

This year’s Runway theme is “Innovation”, which means that the students are expected to roll out designs that are both inspiring and refreshing. Earlier in the year, students were tasked with coming up with imaginative plaid designs that were representational of their individual styles. The winning plaids will be incorporated into the runway show, as well as into Buffalo State’s merchandise.

Not only is Runway an excellent way to showcase the talents with the FTT department, the event is also a significant fundraiser for programming. Last year over $25,000 was raised through ticket sales. Per usual, this year’s show will be cutting edge, allowing both students and alumni to exhibit their works in front of a critical audience, and supporters of the industry.

“We really wanted to build momentum for this year’s show, which is going to be amazing,” said FTT student Breanna Morelli.
