At long last, spring has finally arrived. It’s time to pull our bicycles out of the garage and get a tune up for another season of riding the trails and bike lanes throughout Buffalo. Spring in WNY means a number of outdoor fundraisers and fitness events – including the 2015 American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure®.
This year’s Tour de Cure® will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015, beginning at Old Falls Street in downtown Niagara Falls, New York.
The Tour de Cure® is designed for riders of all levels. There are routes for both the occasional cyclist and the experienced rider, with trails from 6-mile family rides to 100-mile century rides. Routes feature rest stops with food to fuel the journey, volunteers to cheer riders on and Red Riders—cyclists who have diabetes—experiencing “VIP” treatment. The 2015 Tour de Cure® will also offer a 5K walk/run.
Riders will join more than 65,000 other Tour de Cure® cyclists and volunteers from around the country in taking part, to raise funds for the nearly 30 million Americans with diabetes.
Registration is still open for individuals and teams composed of co-workers, family and friends.
“Spring is the perfect time to get motivated to train for a cycling event and we would love to see eve more riders take part in the Tour de Cure®,” said Kelly Arthur, manager of the Tour de Cure®. “We encourage all cyclists to prepare for June 6th by riding your bike instead of driving your car, or participating in the many bicycle-oriented events offered throughout the month of May. It’s also important to prepare your bike by getting a proper fitting and a tune up.”
In need of some services to get your bike ready for this season? Area bike shops including Go Bike Buffalo, Bert’s Bikes & Fitness and Tom’s Pro Bike offer a wide variety of services including tune ups, fittings and repairs.
The Tour de Cure® raises funds through registration fees, pledges collected by cyclists, and corporate sponsorships. To register, cyclists or volunteers can call the American Diabetes Association at 1888-DIABETES, or visit www.diabetes.org/buffalotour.
The title sponsor of the 2015 Tour de Cure® is Seneca Resorts & Casinos. The presenting sponsor is Independent Health.
