Do you know a farmer in the Greater Buffalo area? Chances are that you don’t. It’s not a surprise, as we have become mostly disconnected from the people and the places where our food is grown. But there are a number of activists in the community who are looking to change this. People like Sean Kennedy from Farm2Curb, whose intention is to reconnect people with the farmers, as a way to strengthen a bond that should never have been broken in the first place.
On Saturday April 11th, 2015, from 2-6PM, WNY locavores are invited to attend an event that features locally grown food, music and plenty of information about what we can all do to live healthier lives by eating more responsibly. By “eating more responsibly”, I am talking about knowing where your food is coming from. At this point, it’s hard to know exactly what’s in our food, unless we aware of who is growing it and where.
Sean is committed to figuring out new ways to providing the community, and the local restaurants, with “clean, whole and nutrient-dense foods”. He is of the mindset that we should settle for nothing less. Sean is already connected with the farm community, and now he wants to bridge the farmers with the consumers. Sean came to grips with these mounting issues in 2014, when he founded the Farm2Curb initiative. Now he, along with other founding Farm2Curb members/activists, Naomi Taylor, Dana Lyn Gerace, John Roszman and Porch, is helping to find solutions by organizing a movement that everyone is invited to join.
“The foods we consume are far inferior from a nutritional standpoint than what our grandparents put on the table a century ago.” – Sean Kennedy
Maybe you are a CSA holder? Maybe you have dietary restrictions? Maybe you are simply fed up with being out of the loop when it comes to eating locally sources, organic foods?
Come join Sean and other locavores who are on a mission to change the way we think about food. The event will take place in Ashker’s new location on Main Street, at the corner of East Ferry.
