You’re In Bengals Country

When was the last time that you ever attended a sporting event at Buffalo State? Have you ever attended a sporting event at Buffalo State? In many college towns and cities, the residents “townies” actually spend time on college campuses, supporting the athletic programs. Not so much in Buffalo I fear.

Now the Elmwood Village Association and Buffalo State College Athletics are teaming up to change that mindset. A campaign titled “You’re In Bengals Country” is being unleashed with the help of Elmwood Village businesses. The idea is to hook store customers up with free tickets to attend hockey, basketball and football games.

“Buffalo State and its students are such integral part of the Elmwood community, and we’re excited about this opportunity to promote Buffalo State Athletics while at the same time rewarding shoppers for purchases at Elmwood businesses,” said Elmwood Village Association Executive Director Carly Battin.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be collaborating with the Elmwood Village Association,” said Buffalo State Director of Athletics Jerry Boyes. “This is a win-win for the retailers, surrounding neighborhoods as well as Athletics and, in a broader sense, the college. The campaign offers retailers another ingredient in their marketing efforts to drive traffic to their stores while creating awareness in the Elmwood Village community of Buffalo State athletics and the college.”

In order to amplify the campaign, the Elmwood Village Association will be hosting an Elmwood Village Night at Buffalo State during Bengals’ quadruple header on Friday, February 6, 2015. On that day, sports fans will be able to cheer on a few of their home teams at the Sports Arena:
Women’s hockey takes on Elmira at 4 pm
Men’s hockey against Plattsburg at 7 pm
Men’s basketball takes on Cortland at 5:30pm
Women’s basketball takes on Cortland at 7:30pm
“Frankly, this is just the beginning,” added Boyes. “We’re hoping our neighbors take advantage of the quadruple header on February 6th to come enjoy all great action of Division III athletics. It’s a wonderful [experience] for the entire family.”
