What looks to be a sort of mash up between a John Waters movie, Repo Man and all of the b-movies from my youth, is being released in Buffalo… can you smell it?
Filmed in Buffalo, Flavor Country has accomplished what filmmakers Jim Montour and Matt Wargala set out to do. The movie is a fast paced delivery of “experimental drugs, ornately dressed gangsters and erotic intrigue.” Or is that erotic gangsters, experimental intrigue and ornately dressed drugs?
Whichever way you look at it, there is one thing for certain, and that is… this film has Smell-O-Vision!
Smell-O-Vision was first introduced to moviegoers in the 70s. Viewers were handed scratch and sniff cards that correlated to the different movie scenes. Viewers were asked to scratch the cards, and sniff at the appropriate times. John Waters later capitalized on the stunt with the video release of Polyester that featured a somewhat vile”Odorama”.
“Flavor Country is our love letter to midnight movies, “said Wargala. “The Scratch ‘N Sniff cards add a level of audience participation that’s rare these days. It’s an experience complete with all the good (and bad) smells that go with the territory.”
Now the smells of indie films is coming to Buffalo. “We’re very excited to see this project come to fruition,” said Montour. “I think fans of exploitation films, psychedelic experiences and aficionados of bad taste will enjoy Flavor Country.”
If that sounds like you, then be sure to catch the premiere showing of Flavor Country, a story about a man named Rocket whose Buffalo exploits sound as outrageous as they smell.
