Key Center at Fountain Plaza is losing its namesake tenant. Key Bank is relocating its local headquarters from the north tower at Key Center to significantly smaller space at 250 Delaware when the building is completed late this year.
Key Bank is the second Key Center tenant to plan a move to 250 Delaware. Delaware North is also relocating its headquarters from Key Center to 250 Delaware. Delaware North’s space is being backfilled by the Buffalo IT Innovation and Commercialization Hub which IBM has agreed to anchor with 500 new jobs.
The 17-story north tower at Key Center opened in September 1990 with Key Bank as an anchor taking 75,000 sq.ft. of the 260,000 sq.ft. building. The bank has reduced its space over time and today has offices on three floors and 43,000 sq.ft. of space. Key is leasing just 12,000 sq.ft. at 250 Delaware though employment is holding steady at 100.
Key Bank joins Delaware North and the Department of Homeland Security in Uniland Development Company’s 250 Delaware. With the three leases, the building’s 193,000 sq.ft. of office space is 90 percent pre-leased.
