Ice Biking in Buffalo continues to make waves around the country. What started out as a cool local sport has captured the imagination of cyclists everywhere, as seen in the The Boston Globe and Bicycling.com. For years we’ve been talking about how to get Buffalo on the map for its winters. From building the largest ice maze to ice sailing on Lake Erie, we’ve been chipping away at the image, but Ice Biking is certainly capturing the hearts of the outdoor types.
Not only do the bikes allow people to be active outside during the winter, they also help to put this city on the map for its ingenuity and fortitude. It’s a wonder that the concept was not rolled out in the United States sooner. Now that Buffalo has managed to come up with one such ingenious idea, it would be great to see the wheels keep turning. If we can manage to turn January and February into a winter wonderland in Downtown Buffalo, then we can market this city as a year round travel destination. One step at a time… one pedal at a time.
This city was once a powerhouse in bicycle manufacturing. It’s in our blood.
