All week I was anticipating attending the official unveiling of The Ice @ Canalside earlier this evening. Unfortunately, I got stuck at a couple of holiday parties and no matter how I tried to get free, I missed out on the action.
Fortunately Canalside took some pretty sweet photos of people taking to the ice, which does the event and the venue justice. Since I was not able to attend the event, there’s not a lot that I can say, but I’m sure that some of you were able to make it. Was it everything that you imagined? Was there anything missing? It looks to be a raging success. What are some of the takeaways from the unveiling?
“This transformative year-round activity space is bringing the crowds to Canalside during the winter season,” said ECHDC Chairman Robert Gioia. “The Ice at Canalside looks like a scene right out of a Currier and Ives painting now that it is bustling with skaters, food vendors and families enjoying the festive atmosphere at this historic site. I hope everyone makes plans to visit the Ice and see how Governor Cuomo’s vision for making Buffalo a year-round destination has become a reality we can all be proud of now and for generations to come.”
*The $20 million project provides visitors a skating surface that is bigger than two NHL rinks, three unique bridges and 22,000 square feet of towpaths lining the canals to reinforce the pedestrian experience.
