The Buffalo Niagara Partnership is asking the public to voice support for the extension of a critical economic development tool: the Brownfield Cleanup Program.
On Wednesday, the short-term extension of the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP), passed by the NYS Senate and Assembly during the 2014 legislative sessions, will be sent to Governor Cuomo to sign into law. The Governor will have ten days to act on this bill. Many in the development and environmental communities believe it is vital that he sign it and provide short-term certainty through March 2017 for this critical economic development program while a long-term, reformed program is negotiated. Without a timely extension prior to the close of 2014, the uncertainty surrounding the program places public health at risk and puts hundreds of new jobs and millions of dollars in new development projects in jeopardy.
